Opening Day 2017

on September 11, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | News Feed
We are so excited to have our students back on campus! Everyone has now arrived, despite threatening weather in the south. Opening Day included our traditional Convocation in the chapel, where C.J. lead us with a great sports analogy, getting everyone in "ready position." Family members, students, and staff shared their hopes for the year. One parent shared, "This is a fearful time in our world, but I hope we will not let our fear make us smaller, make us shrink into ourselves. I hope we will reach beyond our fear and connect with others." The sentiment is one we will carry with us through the year.

Hello, New Staff!

on September 8, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | News Feed
We are thrilled to introduce our new staff! While Mo, our new office administrator, joined us for training starting in June, our three newest staff members began training in mid-August. It is wonderful to have their energy and enthusiasm on our team and we can't wait for them to dive into the school year with our students.

Goodbye Lonnie!

on August 31, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | News Feed
Today was Lonnie's last day as our Office Administrator! We celebrated Lonnie in staff meetings, with a classic Rock Point kazoo choir playing the graduation song. In typical Lonnie style, she did not want a big flashy gift (even though she deserves one!), but we will honor her with a garden in front of the school. A.J. (class of 2017) painted a rock to decorate the garden with Lonnie's name. Additionally, we put together a scrapbook with letters from students and families through the year.

August and Everything After: End of Summer Session

on August 11, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | summer
Summer Session has gone by in a blur of road trips, night swimming, and ice cream cones. Students are packing up and preparing to head home for a few weeks before the school year begins. For our last week of summer session, students experimented with the 3-D printer, becoming more familiar with the technology as well as practicing some math skills. We also visited the Lake Champlain Maritime museum and had the opportunity to row across the lake to New York in some antique boats.

Summertime and the livin' is ... BUSY!

on July 18, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | summer
We've finished Week 2 of Summer Session and it was a full one! Students learned a new skill (for some) with a sewing elective in the morning. In the garden, we harvested radishes and lettuce; planted kale, chard, and lettuce; and weeded everything.

It's the end of the year as we know it ...

on June 7, 2017 By Molly Huddle Coffey | transitions
The end of the school year is always a bittersweet time for our community. Our days are filled with fun events, cleaning the school, packing our bags, and saying farewell. While both staff and students are looking forward to summer break (and Summer Session), we are sad to say goodbye to members of our community who are graduating, retiring, or moving on. One way we try to ease the stress of the transition is through many of our end-of-the-year traditional events.

Dancing the Night Away: Prom 2017

Flowers, dresses, canoes, and cupcakes made this year's "Secret Garden" themed Prom another one to remember. Staff showed up in floral outfits, while the Prom committee students decorated the library with fairy lights, lilacs, and a chocolate fountain. Per Rock Point tradition, guidance counselor, Emily, was mixing up smoothies and milkshakes for students, while history teacher, Gus, gave everyone rides in his canoe themed "lame-o."
