Yet again the Rock Point drama club put on a hilarious and moving evening of student-written plays.
This year we had five plays:
"Mockingbird": by turns funny and philosophical, we get a peek at a conversation between Faust and Freud in a bar at the End of the World. They debate whether love or reason is superior ... an argument that seems eternal.
"Schizophrenia": a look at a young man struggling with voices in his head, and heroically overcoming them.
"The Iced Toe Morgue": a comedic ride with an out-of-luck mortuary worker and his unexpected zombie friends, this one ends with a surprisingly touching reunion with a smelly corpse.
"Off the pill": a critical piece looking at the dark days of psychiatry in the 1960's when lobotomy was common. We get to see the struggles of a young patient to be heard, and also of a physician doubting the accepted practices of her profession.
"Demon": a hapless teenager manages to summon a demon from the netherworld. He is concerned until he realizes that the demon is even more hapless than he is, with hilarious results.
Congratulations to the staff and students who worked hard for weeks to make these shows a success. It was quite a night!
