Leisure Books Library Corner

Girl reading in the library

The Rock Point School library is a hub for all kinds of activities. Musicians practice in the loft, actors rehearse on the main floor, our Dungeons and Dragons group meets there on the weekend, and study groups work together at the big table throughout the week. Of course, it’s also full of classic (and sometimes outdated) books!

This year a group of students has been working with Residential Educator, Mariah, and Abbey, our English teacher, to update the library collection. These students enjoy reading in their spare time, and we are eager to help them find more contemporary fiction, graphic novels, and Young Adult books! Their goal is to create a cozy corner of the library with fun books to read during downtime.

Serendipitously, this fall, we received an email from Julia Eastham (class of 2015) offering to donate some books she thought RPS students might enjoy, mostly in the YA Fantasy and Manga genres. Julia was a big reader in her time at Rock Point and she has carried that habit with her into her adult life. You can read more about Julia and other alumni here. We are so grateful to her for thinking of the school and shipping her books to us for our current students to enjoy!

Going forward, we will be scouring used bookstores and thrift shops, looking for deals on books to add to this Leisure Books Collection. If you are interested in donating books, new or used, contact Mariah at mkelly@rockpoint.org. Our students are particularly interested in books by Neil Gaiman, Leigh Bardugo, and Gris Grimly. Here is a good list of contemporary YA books for the teenagers in your life!
