Before December break, we had a very special visitor at Rock Point! Spot the Robot came to show us some of what is possible in the field of robotics. Rob Collier, parent of a Rock Point Student and a manager at Boston Dynamics, volunteered to bring Spot to school to introduce students to robotics. We were thrilled to learn more about this expanding discipline!
Rob presented the students with “What it Takes to Build a Robot,” highlighting the different kinds of engineering necessary to create a robot. He also reviewed the history of robotics and how the Boston Dynamics robots are used in the real world.
Of course, our favorite part of the presentation was watching Spot in action. Rob taught students and staff to operate the robot and we had a lot of fun figuring out the many different ways Spot can move. We are very thankful for Rob’s time and to Boston Dynamics for sharing their amazing work with us!
