Teaching Financial Literacy

Did you know that 93% of people experience some level of math anxiety? Rock Point School math teacher Leda Sommerville certainly does! Leda is passionate about helping kids love math, “We're living in a world where competitive math and rote memorization early on have turned kids off to math or created a false belief that some can and some cannot ‘do’ math. We're here, together in this classroom, to smash that myth.”

Voices of the Movement Project

Annually, all Rock Point School students participate in a Civil Rights Movement Unit in history class. We do this because we offer a Civil Rights Trip each year, and we believe that experiential learning works best when participants have a solid foundation of knowledge. Although only a portion of our students go on the trip, it’s worthwhile to make these learning experiences accessible to all.

In the Quaker Meeting-style ceremony, many graduates and families shared stories and thank you’s to each other, friends, and Rock Point faculty.

Prom 2022

Prom is a rite of passage for many high school students. It can also be a source of stress and anxiety, a time when some people feel left out or overlooked. At Rock Point School, we want prom to be a celebration of spring and the end of the school year that every student can enjoy. We try to infuse fun and not take things too seriously, which is why the dress code is flexible and often involves costumes and wigs. While it’s unlikely that you’ll see “Prom-posals” in the hallways, our students get excited about our prom traditions, and the prom committee loves creating a fun theme that stays secret from the rest of the school.
