For the first weekend at Rock Point School, students split up by dorm floors for a weekend of adventures. This year, the 2nd Floor Residents, including new Residential Educators John and Haley, traveled to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont for a visit to Lake Willoughby. Our generous Office and Systems Manager, Mary, lent her lake house to the group for the weekend!

Students bonded on the long car ride to the remote lake, sharing music and taking naps. On the first evening, John and Haley attempted to make some pizza with moderate success, but the s’mores over the campfire made up for any cooking errors. Campfires are also the best place to tell stories! Returning students regaled newcomers with tales of Rock Point School yore, and newcomers shared stories of their own journeys. Many laughs were had by all.

After a chilly night (the gas fireplace in the house was not working well), the brave crew set off for a hike up nearby Mount Pisgah for the lake views. Despite some reluctant hikers, the trip was rewarding with lots of gorgeous vistas. After returning to the house, John taught students one of his favorite games - croquet! The night ended with hotdogs and s’mores and more campfire chats. Finally, with the help of YouTube, John and Haley were even able to get the gas fireplace working!

On Saturday morning, Grayson, a new student, made everyone breakfast and they set off for the lake with bellies full of pancakes, sausage, and coffee. Although it was far too cold to swim, the mountain views and visits with ducks were worth the trip! Students returned to school with lots of stories to tell and burgeoning friendships.

We are so grateful to Mary for sharing her house with us. The 3rd floor is excited to take their trip to Lake Willoughby this weekend!
